Little Free (your mind) Library

"My goal is to offer reading materials that I hope will fall in to the hands of someone, girl and boy, who needs to read it. That they will read it and see they are not limited. There are strong successful women out there and that society and the norms they dictate do not have the final say in who they are."

Last summer a woman named Ana who lives in a rural part of Alabama ("where strong women's voices get heard are few and far between") reached out to us to purchase copies of the magazine for a Little Free Library she was planning on building.

"I know plenty of strong women who cook, clean, raise the family, go to a low wage job and then go home to work the farm, balance the books, etc. and yet they are still under their husband and are expected to "fetch" them another beer or are told to "shut it." I promise you that some of the strongest women I have known are these "country" women who put up with the bullshit and still keep the family together and do sooo much that goes unnoticed. The issue I have come to recognize is that they don't know there is more to life out there. There is a lack of TRUE education and exposure outside of this "reality" that their families have lived in generation after generation.

I have a 9 month old daughter, and my husband and I don't want her to be limited by the society she is surrounded by. But I don't just want to educate my daughter, I want to offer this to both girls and boys, men and women in the area. I want to open their minds...maybe just a little difference is all I can hope to make but I want to try.

My goal is to offer reading materials that I hope will fall in to the hands of someone, girl and boy, who needs to read it. That they will read it and see they are not limited. There are strong successful women and that society and the norms they dictate do not have the final say in who they are. That females are so much more than their perceived "place" and "worth" in this area."

After facing a lot of bureaucratic and zoning BS to simply put the free library on her own property by her mailbox, we are stoked to hear that she was finally able to erect it this last fall after collecting signatures of support from neighbors!

"You wouldn't believe how much this has been embraced and how many others are in the process of doing the same thing in neighboring subdivisions!"
